Spider Man Brand New Day has made a record breaking start at the Indian box office, delivering the biggest opening weekend ever for a Hollywood film in the country. Starring Tom Holland, the superhero film collected approximately Rs. 91.50 crore gross and Rs. 75.50 crore nett on Sunday alone. This pushed its four day extended opening weekend total to around Rs. 298.50 crore gross and Rs. 246.50 crore nett.
With these numbers, the film has surpassed the previous opening weekend record held by Avengers Endgame, which had earned Rs. 193 crore gross over its three day opening weekend in India. The strong response from audiences across the country has helped Spider Man Brand New Day set a new benchmark for Hollywood releases.
The reported figures do not include the complete collection from 3D ticket charges, which are generally kept separate in India. If those charges are added, the film earned approximately Rs. 100.50 crore gross on Sunday alone. Its total gross collection, including 3D charges, reached around Rs. 328.50 crore during the extended opening weekend. This also means the film crossed the historic Rs. 100 crore gross mark in a single day.
The film performed exceptionally well in almost every major market across India. Most regions recorded their highest ever collections for a Hollywood release. However, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana remained behind the record set by Avatar The Way of Water, while Tamil Nadu saw comparatively lower numbers because of competition from the Tamil film Jana Nayagan, which limited the number of screens available for the Hollywood release.
One of the biggest surprises was the strong performance in North India. In recent years, South Indian markets have largely driven the success of Hollywood films, but this time the northern circuits also delivered excellent collections, contributing significantly to the film’s record breaking opening.
Trade expectations suggest that Spider Man Brand New Day is now on course to become the highest grossing Hollywood film ever released in India. Industry experts believe the film is almost certain to cross Rs. 500 crore gross during its theatrical run. Whether it can reach Rs. 600 crore gross or cross the Rs. 500 crore nett milestone will depend on how well it performs over the coming days.
The film’s day wise performance reflects its strong momentum. It collected Rs. 58.00 crore nett and Rs. 70.50 crore gross on Thursday, followed by Rs. 46.00 crore nett and Rs. 55.50 crore gross on Friday. Collections increased to Rs. 67.00 crore nett and Rs. 81.00 crore gross on Saturday before reaching Rs. 75.50 crore nett and Rs. 91.50 crore gross on Sunday. With an opening weekend total of Rs. 246.50 crore nett and Rs. 298.50 crore gross, Spider Man Brand New Day has rewritten the record books and established a new milestone for Hollywood films in India
