Vishwanath And Sons Box Office: Suriya’s Film Faces Midweek Drop, Rs 52.50 Crore More Needed

Vishwanath And Sons earned around Rs 5 to Rs 5.5 crore on Day 6, taking its India gross to Rs 77 to Rs 78 crore after six days.

Suriya’s latest film Vishwanath And Sons is facing a difficult phase at the box office after a promising start during the Independence Day weekend. Directed by Venky Atluri, the family drama opened across Tamil and Telugu markets but has seen a noticeable drop in ticket sales during the weekdays. After six days in theatres, the film has collected around Rs 77 to Rs 78 crore gross in India.

On Day 6, which was Wednesday, August 19, the film earned approximately Rs 5 to Rs 5.5 crore. It recorded an average occupancy of 21 per cent, with around 5,000 shows taking place across India. The midweek numbers indicate that the film is finding it difficult to maintain the pace it showed during its opening days.

The film was reportedly made on a budget of Rs 130 crore. Based on its current India collections, it has recovered around 59 per cent of its reported cost so far. To cross its production budget through domestic theatrical earnings and reach the level needed for a clean profit, the film would need to earn another Rs 52.50 crore.

That target now looks challenging because weekday collections have slowed down considerably. The film still has more days to run in cinemas, and its performance during the upcoming weekend will be important. A strong jump in ticket sales could help the movie reduce the gap, while continued low collections could make it difficult to recover the remaining amount.

Vishwanath And Sons is currently placed third in the box office rankings. However, its final position will depend on how it performs in the coming days and whether it can maintain audience interest as other films compete for screen space.

The film has also faced challenges in important markets such as Chennai and Hyderabad, where audience footfalls have reportedly remained modest. Since the movie is designed as a family entertainer, its ability to attract viewers during the coming weeks will play a major role in deciding its final theatrical performance.

For Suriya, the film arrives after the success of Karuppu, which had performed strongly at the box office. The contrasting response to his latest release makes the upcoming days particularly important for the actor’s film.

With around Rs 77 to Rs 78 crore already earned in India, Vishwanath And Sons now needs a significant improvement in collections to move closer to its reported Rs 130 crore budget. The second weekend could prove crucial in determining whether the film manages to recover more ground.
