Abhishek Kapoor’s Azaad, featuring debutantes Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani, has not done great at the box office since its release. The film set in 1920 opened with an average response but ran into trouble in later days. In spite of the stardom of Ajay Devgn with an extended cameo, Azaad is having a tough time doing business.
Produced by RSVP Movies, the film has managed only week collections on the fifth day since its release. If the trends continue, Azaad has almost no chance of going upward in terms of its business days ahead. The prospects of the film are further dimmed by the release of Sky Force-an aerial action film that stars Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya-on January 24. With so much anticipation surrounding Sky Force, the competition for Azaad will be fiercer.
Abhishek Kapoor’s directional comeback comes after a hiatus of none less than four years. Given this time frame, it is a project he has focused on. Only the likes of Kai Po Che (semi-hit), Kedarnath (average), Fitoor (disaster), and Rock On! (average)-the competition scenario is becoming all the more challenging.
Azaad is also his second film with Ajay Devgn, who made a cameo appearance in his 2016 film Fitoor. Yet, Azaad, despite star power and direction by the seasoned Kapoor, seems to have not displayed much sign of finding stable footing at the box office looking at the stiff competition.
