John Abraham’s The Diplomat in trouble? Advance Booking opens to lukewarm response

John Abraham’s highly anticipated film The Diplomat is scheduled for release this weekend, but early signs of its pre-bookings indicate that it is off to a sluggish start. The thriller, which is directed by Shivam Nair, is experiencing a poor response in its pre-bookings, and expectations are for a poor opening.

Low Advance Bookings and Dependence on Spot Booking

The advance booking of The Diplomat began today, two days prior to its release, but the response has been lukewarm. Preliminary expectations indicate that the film may open with a figure of about Rs 1 crore to Rs 2 crore, which would be a poor beginning for a John Abraham film. Though a minor increase in advance bookings is likely to happen in the next few days, it will not be substantial. The movie will be dependent on spot booking and walk-ins to ensure a good opening.

Competition from Other Blockbusters

The movie will receive strong competition this weekend, especially from the blockbuster Chhaava featuring Vicky Kaushal. Chhaava, despite a comparatively sluggish performance, would perform better than the new releases, such as The Diplomat. The thriller drama will also compete with Kesari Veer and Rise of The Dragon. Although these movies will share space during the Holi weekend, The Diplomat will need to perform better than these movies to make an impression at the box office.

The Weekend Prospects

Even though the initial buzz was not forthcoming, The Diplomat can still gain steam if the content strikes a chord with viewers. John Abraham’s previous film, Vedaa, did not work at the box office, and it is to be seen whether The Diplomat can fare better and reverse its fortunes this weekend.
