Dhadak 2, directed by Shazia Iqbal and starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, hit theatres on August 1, 2025, to positive reviews. Audiences and critics alike lauded the film for its bold storytelling and standout performances, especially from the lead pair. Despite its strong content and emotional depth, the romantic drama is finding it tough to translate critical acclaim into box office success.
Box Office Collection: A Lukewarm Start
As per early data from Sacnilk.com, Dhadak 2 managed to collect Rs 1.40 crore on Monday, August 4—its lowest single-day earnings since release. The film’s four-day total now stands at Rs 12.80 crore. It opened with Rs 3.50 crore on Day 1, followed by Rs 3.75 crore on Day 2 and Rs 4.15 crore on Day 3.
While the weekend growth was modest, the sharp drop on Monday has raised concerns about the film’s theatrical run. However, a Rs 99 ticket pricing strategy rolled out across several multiplex chains on Tuesday could offer a much-needed boost to footfalls.
Tough Competition at the Box Office
One of the key factors affecting Dhadak 2’s performance is its clash with multiple films. Ajay Devgn’s mass entertainer Son of Sardaar 2 continues to dominate with strong weekend collections, while earlier releases like Saiyaara and the animated mythological film Mahavatar Narsimha are still pulling in niche audiences. The crowded release window has significantly diluted the impact of Dhadak 2, despite its emotional narrative and social relevance.
Plot and Performances
A remake of the critically acclaimed Tamil film Pariyerum Perumal, Dhadak 2 tells the story of Neelesh (Siddhant Chaturvedi), a lower-caste law student, and Vidhi (Triptii Dimri), an upper-caste girl. Their love story is a powerful exploration of caste discrimination, identity, and defiance against oppressive social norms.
Supporting performances from Zakir Hussain, Saurabh Sachdeva, Deeksha Joshi, and Vipin Sharma add further emotional weight to the film’s message.
Production Delays and Future Projects
Produced by Karan Johar under Dharma Productions, the film was originally scheduled for a 2024 release but faced delays due to CBFC clearance issues. After several modifications and cuts, the film finally released in August 2025.
Looking ahead, Siddhant Chaturvedi will star in Dil Ka Darwaza Khol Na Darling opposite Wamiqa Gabbi. Triptii Dimri is gearing up for an action thriller with Vishal Bhardwaj and Shahid Kapoor, and will also feature in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit.
