Tushar Jalota’s romantic drama Param Sundari is refusing to slowdown at the box office. Featuring Sidharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor, the movie has breached the Rs 45-crore mark in India and is a surprise hit despite stiff competition from other big releases such as The Bengal Files, Baaghi 4, and The Conjuring.
Impressive Start and Steady Growth
Param Sundari started well with a strong weekend, raking in Rs 26.75 crore over the first three days. The movie took Rs 7.25 crore on Friday, August 29, which was its opening day. As good word of mouth and increasing interest over the weekend caused the collections to gain 30%, Saturday saw Rs 9.25 crore and Sunday a harvest of Rs 10.25 crore.
Within the first week, the film made around Rs 39 crore locally and an estimated Rs 62.75 crore internationally.
Second Week Dip, But Sunday Bounce Back
As with most movies, Param Sundari experienced a midweek slump in its second week. Day 8 picked up Rs 1.75 crore, while day 9 earned Rs 2 crore. Day 10, which was Sunday (September 7), registered some improvement at Rs 2.5 crore, making its overall Indian net collection around Rs 46 crore.
Occupancy Rates Reflect Growing Interest
On Sunday, the movie posted a general theatre occupancy rate of 45.60%. The morning shows began slowly with 19.44% occupancy, but afternoon and evening shows improved dramatically to 53.89% and 67.38% respectively. The night shows also saw respectable patronage with 41.70% occupancy, showing sustained interest on the part of audiences.
A Cultural Romance That Clicks
Directed by Tushar Jalota and made by Maddock Films, Param Sundari is a mix of contemporary romance and cultural elements. The movie is about Param (Sidharth Malhotra), a successful businessman from Delhi, who meets Sundari (Janhvi Kapoor), a conservative girl from Kerala who runs her family homestay. Their different worlds create amusing, emotional, and romantic moments, making the movie a realistic love story for viewers all over India.
Supporting actors Inayat Verma, Sanjay Kapoor, and Manjot Singh lend character and humor to the film’s story.
With strong performances, rich cultural content, and strong box office traction, Param Sundari continues to capture hearts and audiences well into its second week.
