Ajay Devgn returns to the big screen in full form with Son of Sardaar 2, bringing back his signature blend of slapstick humour, high-energy action, and heartwarming family drama. Released on August 1, 2025, the sequel to the 2012 hit Son of Sardaar may have garnered mixed critical reviews, but its box office collections tell a more optimistic story.
Impressive Opening Weekend Numbers
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Son of Sardaar 2 had a solid opening, earning Rs 7.5 crore on Day 1. The film saw a healthy 13.79% rise on Saturday, raking in Rs 8.25 crore, and continued its momentum on Sunday with Rs 9.25 crore, bringing the total weekend collection to Rs 24.75 crore.
While it may not match the thunderous success of Devgn’s previous hit Raid 2, the film has outperformed several new releases including Dhadak 2, which collected only Rs 11.50 crore over the same weekend.
Family Entertainment That Clicks
Directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, Son of Sardaar 2 features a massive ensemble cast, including Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Mrunal Thakur, Neeru Bajwa, Chunky Panday, Kubbra Sait, and the late Mukul Dev, in his final screen appearance. The film has resonated with family audiences, especially in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities, thanks to its accessible humour and festive vibe.
Presented by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, and produced by Ajay Devgn, Jyoti Deshpande, N R Pachisia, and Pravin Talreja, the film had earlier been scheduled for release on July 25 but was pushed to August 1.
Critics Acknowledge the Film’s Entertaining Spirit
While critics were divided, the overall tone remained fairly positive. News18 Showsha awarded the film 3 out of 5 stars, calling it “a decent watch for families” and praised its lighthearted tone. The review advised audiences to “go with a mindset to watch some pure slapstick comedy” and teased a surprise announcement at the end of the film—though not a Son of Sardaar 3.
