Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari’s Day 6 Collection: Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor’s Film Earns Rs 3 Crore, But Struggles to Impress

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari Box Office Collection Day 6: Varun Dhawan's Film Collects Rs 3 Crore, Total Hits Rs 36.25 Crore

Shashank Khaitan’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, featuring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, released to good reviews from audiences and critics alike. But the box office performance of the film has not lived up to the pre-release hype, reporting a disconcerting decline in collections as it enters its second week in theaters.

Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the romantic comedy also stars Rohit Saraf and Sanya Malhotra. The film tells the tale of Sunny (Varun) and Tulsi (Janhvi), who, together, set out to make their respective exes—Vikram (Rohit) and Ananya (Sanya)—jealous, but end up falling for one another amidst a set of humorous complexities.

The film’s new idea and good performances have failed to maintain the momentum at the box office. The film collected Rs 3 crore net on its sixth day in India, making its total Rs 36.25 crore, sacnilk.com reported. Even with the pan-India Rs 99 ticket rates on Tuesday, which tend to drive up mid-week attendance, the collections have been flat.

The movie is now likely to wrap up its first week around Rs 40 crore, with lifetime collections expected to top at Rs 50 crore—a moderate number for a big-banner offering with A-grade stars. Trade analysts attribute the film’s soft monetary performance to stiff competition from Kantara Chapter 1, Rishab Shetty’s mythological action drama that has ruled the box office recently.

Kantara Chapter 1 has been growing steadily, particularly its Hindi counterpart, and is hurtling towards the Rs 100 crore barrier. Its word of mouth and popularity amongst the mass audience appear to have had an effect on the footfalls for Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, especially in Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns.

Everyone now looks at the second weekend to check if the Varun-Janhvi starrer manages to regain some lost ground. Thankfully for the movie, it has no big competition in the coming three weeks until the Diwali releases, namely, Thamma with Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna, and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat with Harshvardhan Rane and Sonam Bajwa.

Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari is the second outing for Varun and Janhvi together following Bawaal, but this time whether their on-screen chemistry will reflect in the box office too is a question to be answered.
