James Gunn’s Superman, starring David Corenswet in the cape, has had an impressive start at the Indian box office, despite a noticeable dip in collections on its first Monday. The reboot has outperformed current Bollywood releases and is already among the top-performing Hollywood films of 2025 in India.
Strong Opening Weekend, Slower Monday
The film opened to a strong response, earning ₹7 crore on Friday, followed by ₹7.75 crore on Saturday and peaking with ₹9.25 crore on Sunday. This brought its weekend total to ₹24 crore. However, early estimates from Sacnilk suggest Monday’s earnings dropped to ₹2.25 crore, bringing the four-day total to ₹28.25 crore. Despite the slowdown, Superman remains significantly ahead of other releases in theatres.
In comparison, Rajkummar Rao’s crime drama Maalik earned ₹1.65 crore on its fourth day, while Aankhon Ki Gustaakhiyan, a romantic film featuring Vikrant Massey and debutante Shanaya Kapoor, managed just ₹20 lakh.

A Fresh Take on the Man of Steel
This latest reboot skips the familiar origin story and dives into a younger Clark Kent navigating his dual life. From confronting Lex Luthor to handling a PR scandal and exploring his bond with Lois Lane, the film presents a more grounded and personal Superman. The ensemble cast includes Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, and Milly Alcock.
Ahead of its Indian release, the CBFC trimmed a 33-second kissing scene, edited explicit language, and toned down a brief gesture sequence for certification.
