Bazooka fires at the Box Office! Mammootty’s action thriller earns Rs 5 crore on Day 2, but reviews take a hit

Mammootty’s Vishu offering, Bazooka, has had a rollercoaster debut despite the talent and promise surrounding the film. On its first day, the film managed to earn Rs 3.2 crore nett across India—a modest figure that industry observers attribute to a cold promotion strategy and stiff competition at the box office from youth-centric films like Maranamass and Alappuzha Gymkhana.

Day 2: A Slight Recovery Amidst Declining Occupancy
Defying mixed reviews, the film saw a modest recovery on Day 2 with earnings of Rs 2 crore, raising its overall tally to Rs 5.2 crore. However, there was a noticeable dip in theater occupancy, which fell from 48.53 percent on Day 1 to 39.77 percent on Day 2. Industry experts suggest that the festive release window might be in Bazooka’s favor, as Mammootty’s star power continues to draw attention. The film’s straightforward narrative—focused on the elevation of the Megastar—is also expected to resonate with audiences.

Comparing the Numbers
Bazooka has fared slightly better than Mammootty’s previous outing, Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse, directed by Gautham Vasudev Menon, which raked in only Rs 6.4 crore over its four-day opening before plummeting to a disappointing Rs 9.1 crore in the domestic market. However, the film’s current performance falls short compared to the experimental Bramayugam, which benefited from overwhelmingly positive reviews and achieved higher two-day collections.

Surprisingly, Bazooka’s numbers are also significantly lower compared to Mammootty’s action drama, Turbo. Turbo opened with Rs 6.25 crore on its first day and closed the opening weekend with Rs 18.35 crore. With fierce competition, including Ajith Kumar’s Tamil film Good Bad Ugly, it appears that Bazooka may struggle to match those impressive numbers in the upcoming days
