L2 Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and featuring Mohanlal, is still ruling the box office. Notwithstanding some controversies, the political action drama is on a roll. Following a resounding launch, the movie collected an astounding Rs 66.50 crore on its opening day and finished its first four days with Rs 175.50 crore worldwide. On the sixth day, the movie surpassed the Rs 220 crore target. Within its first week, L2 Empuraan generated a record Rs 231 crore worldwide, justifying its gigantic success.

Racing Toward the No.1 Spot
L2 Empuraan is rapidly rising through the ranks of the top-grossing Malayalam movies of all time. It is currently the second top-grossing Malayalam film, behind Manjummel Boys, which earned Rs 242 crore over its lifetime. With only Rs 12 crore remaining to cross this milestone, L2 Empuraan will likely cross the much-sought title of Industry Hit, and it can even touch the Rs 250 crore mark worldwide on the basis of its present box office trends.
Re-edited Version Released After Controversy
Following the outcry of controversy following the release of the movie, L2 Empuraan has had 24 further cuts. The re-cut version, which is now certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), is out in theaters. This has not dampened the film’s momentum, as it is still enjoying gross success.
With its incredibly good box office and ongoing buzz, L2 Empuraan is raising the bar for Malayalam cinema.
