Ashwin Kumar’s mythological animated film Mahavatar Narsimha is rewriting box office history. In just three days, it has emerged as the highest-grossing Indian animated film of all time, surpassing the long-standing record held by Hanuman (2005). The film’s success proves that Indian animation has come a long way — now drawing massive crowds beyond just the kids’ demographic.
Explosive Weekend Growth
The film saw an extraordinary rise in earnings over the weekend. It opened with ₹2.10 crore on Friday, soared to ₹5.50 crore on Saturday, and ended Sunday with a total gross of ₹10.75–₹11.50 crore (₹9.25–₹9.75 crore net). That marks a staggering 500% jump from Friday to Sunday.
Overall, Mahavatar Narsimha raked in around ₹19 crore gross (₹15.50 crore net) in its opening weekend — a record-breaking debut for an Indian animated feature.
Hindi Version Leads the Charge
The Hindi version played a major role in the film’s box office dominance, contributing more than ₹13.50 crore gross (₹11 crore+ net) over the weekend. On Sunday alone, the Hindi version netted ₹6.75–₹7 crore (₹8 crore gross), making it the film’s top-performing language. The Telugu version also did well with ₹4.50 crore gross (₹3.85 crore net), while other language versions added another ₹75 lakh.
A Mythological Tale with Modern Appeal
Directed by Ashwin Kumar and backed by Hombale Films — known for Kantara and KGF — the film has impressed viewers with its powerful storytelling and high-quality visuals. The screenplay, written by Jayapurna Das and Rudra Pratap Ghosh, brings to life the epic tale of Prahlad Maharaj and the Narasimha avatar of Lord Vishnu. Presented in five languages and produced by Shilpaa Dhawan, Kushal Desai, and Chaitanya Desai, Mahavatar Narsimha is setting a new benchmark for Indian animated cinema.
