The coming Friday will again witness as many as three releases, including Preity Zinta’s (dubbed) VIDESH. The list also includes the Nana Patekar and Bobby Deol starrer EK – THE POWER OF ONE and Jehangir Surti’s Bipasha-Neil venture AA DEKHEN ZARA. One feels that the front runner is going to be AA DEKHEN ZARA, followed by EK-THE POWER OF ONE. Preity’s award-winning VIDESH may see a limited appeal amongst select multiplex audience.

Last Friday saw the release of five films – Naseeruddin Shah’s BARAH AANA and FIRAAQ, Aftab Shivdasani’s ALOO CHAAT, the Vinay Pathak starrer STRAIGHT and Abhijit Sawant’s debut venture LOTTERY. While BARAH AANA and STRAIGHT are outright failures, ALOO CHAAT and FIRAAQ have dull to weak collections to show, but the makers can still harbour some hopes, especially for FIRAAQ. The last release LOTTERY is already a disaster.

CHECK OUT: AA DEKHEN ZARA Movie Preview

Checking out the performance of the Fardeen-Kunal starrer, JAI VEERU-FRIENDS FOREVER, the film has some pathetic collections to show, barring some single screens of U.P. The film collected 22 lakhs from Bombay, 10 lakhs from Amedabad, 1 lakh from Pune, 20 lakhs from Delhi city, 2.75 lakhs from Noida, 5.60 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 6.35 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.20 lakhs from Allahabad, 2.45 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2 lakhs from Faridabad, 2.65 lakhs from Nagpur, 3.15 lakhs from Jaipur, 15.75 lakhs from Hyderabad and 2.25 lakhs from Aurangabad. During its first week, JAI-VEERU has netted a poor 1.85 crores from India. The film is an unmitigated disaster.

It was generally believed that Anurag Kashyap would continue the success of DEV D with his GULAAL; unfortunately it was not to be as the film managed some very poor numbers. During the week GULAAL collected 78 lakhs from Bombay, 16.15 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.15 lakhs from Rajkot, 4.05 lakhs from Pune, 1.05 lakhs from Nasik, 40.75 lakhs from Delhi city, 9 lakhs from Noida, 7.15 lakhs from Nasik, 2 lakhs from Kanpur, 6.20 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.15 lakhs from Aligarh, 1 lakh from Gorakhpur, 1.75 lakhs from Chandigarh, 10 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.85 lakhs from Faridabad, 3 lakhs from Nagpur, 3.65 lakhs from Jaipur, 9.35 lakhs from Hyderabad and 1.20 lakhs from Mangalore. In its first week, GULAAL manages a very ordinary 3.50 crores from India and unless and until there is some miracle (and there is no indications of that!) the film is set to fail at the box-office.

The only cheer (though small!) came via Boman Irani’s limited release English movie, LITTLE ZIZOU. The film collected 30.35 lakhs from Bombay, 1.25 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5 lakhs from Pune, 6 lakhs from Delhi city, 2 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3.50 lakhs from Calcutta and 5.65 lakhs from Bangalore. Netting a creditable 55 lakhs (on 38 prints), LITTLE ZIZOU seems to be on a safe turf, given a very steady second weekend.

CHECK OUT: LITTLE ZIZOU – Parsis Unplugged

Moving on to Madhavan’s 13B, the film just about managed decent collections in the second week with 25 lakhs from Bombay, 5.35 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3.50 lakhs from Pune, 1.25 lakhs from Nasik, 14.50 lakhs from Delhi city, 4.05 lakhs from Noida, 3.15 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.25 lakhs from Kanpur, 3.25 lakhs from Lucknow, 4 lakhs from Gurgaon and Nagpur, 2 lakhs from Indore, 1.10 lakhs from Jaipur, 6 lakhs from Hyderabad and 1.10 lakhs from Mangalore. Adding another two lakhs, 13B has netted a so-so 7.50 crores in two weeks from India. The film manages to escape with minimum losses!

The comedy film DHOONDTE REH JAOGE crashed badly. During its second week the Sonu Sood starrer collected 20 lakhs from Bombay, 5.15 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 3.35 lakhs from Rajkot, 1.05 lakhs from Jamnagar, 1.10 lakhs from Bhavnagar (gross), 3.20 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.15 lakhs from Noida, 4 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.15 lakhs from Kanpur, 3 lakhs from Lucknow, 1 lakh from Gorakhpur, 2 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.35 lakhs from Indore and 3.75 lakhs from Hyderabad. With around a crore, DHOONDTE REH JAOGE has netted about 7 crores in two weeks from India. The film has failed at the box-office.

Meanwhile Rakesh Omprakash Mehra’s Abhishek-Sonam starrer DELHI 6 is on its last legs, collecting 4.50 lakhs from Bombay, 5.25 lakhs from Delhi city, 2 lakhs from Noida, 1.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.75 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.65 lakhs from Gurgaon and 4.15 lakhs from Hyderabad. Adding 75 lakhs more, DELHI 6 has netted a below par 31.50 crores in four weeks from India. The film has failed in India and also the Overseas, grossing $324,195 from UK and $879,913 from US.

Concluding with Anurag Kashyap’s Abhay Deol starrer, DEV D, the movie once again manages to trickle in some decent numbers. The film collected 1.25 lakhs from Bombay, 5.25 lakhs from Delhi city, 2 lakhs from Noida, 1.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1.75 lakhs from Gurgaon and 4.15 lakhs from Hyderabad. Adding another 40 lakhs during its latest outing, DEV D has netted a creditable 16 crores in six weeks from India. The film is technically a semi-hit from India.
