The coming Friday is more or less an open week as makers had preferred to keep a safe distance from Rakesh Roshan's KITES, which was expected to have a bountiful run during its second weekend as well. Of course there is a relatively lesser known ASHOK CHAKRA and also the Hollywood film, PRINCE OF PERSIA (along with its dubbed version), listed for release.
The opening of Rakesh Roshan's Anurag Basu directed Hrithik Roshan, Barbara Mori and Kangna Ranaut starrer, KITES, was as per expectations- huge! Unfortunately the word of mouth turned out to be mixed at the A centers and predominantly poor at the B and C centers and as a result after a huge weekend, the very expensive film saw declining collections Monday onwards. The film has also underperformed in the Overseas (given the humongous expectations), though the Brett Ratner edited main stream version (that will release in the Overseas this Friday) is expected to fare much better. As far as the numbers are concerned, KITES has grossed ?273,958 from UK and $958,673 from US, during the opening weekend (21-23 May)
As expected, Priyadarshan?s BUMM BUMM BOLE fared poorly. In its first week the Darsheel Safary starrer collected 20 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 29 cinemas unreceived), 4.50 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1 lakh from Baroda, 1.50 lakhs from Pune, 1.20 lakhs from Goa, 15 lakhs from Delhi city, 1 lakh from Ghaziabad, 2.60 lakhs from Gurgaon, 3.85 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.25 lakhs from Nagpur, 1.20 lakhs from Indore, 1 lakh from Jaipur, 4 lakhs from Hyderabad, 3.35 lakhs from Bangalore and 1 lakh from Madras. Netting slightly less than a crore from India in its opening week, BUMM BUMM BOLE has flopped.
The other release of the week, ADMISSIONS OPEN, is a trade disaster and failed to complete even a week?s run at most cinemas. The film has negligible collections to show.
The third release of the same week, the Nargis and Rajpal Yadav starrer (which also features The Great Khali) KUSHTI is another poor fare. The film collected 10 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 4 cinemas unreceived), 2.35 lakhs from Delhi city, 1.35 lakhs from Lucknow and 3 lakhs from Hyderabad. Netting just around 35 lakhs during its opening week, KUSHTI is a washout.
Moving on, Parmeet Sethi's BADMAASH COMPANY has dropped by quite a bit but given the low budget of around 20 crore, the performance is quite praiseworthy. The film collected 2 crores from Bombay, 40 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 5 lakhs each from Baroda and Rajkot, 1.05 lakhs from Bharuch, 2 lakhs each from Jamnagar and Bhavnagar, 10 lakhs from Pune, 1.35 lakhs from Solapur, 5.10 lakhs from Nasik, 4.05 lakhs from Goa, 1.65 lakhs from Belgaum, 1.15 crores from Delhi city, 16 lakhs from Noida, 10 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 7.55 lakhs from Kanpur, 13 lakhs from Lucknow, 3.05 lakhs each from Agra and Allahabad, 1.25 lakhs from Meerut, 25 lakhs from Gurgaon, 9 lakhs each from Faridabad and Chandigarh, 1.20 lakhs from Zirakpur, 3.15 lakhs from Ludhiana, 1.75 lakhs each from Amritsar and Bhatinda, 30 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.75 lakhs from Siliguri, 2.25 lakhs from Guwahati, 11 lakhs from Nagpur, 4 lakhs from Jabalpur, 2 lakhs from Amravati, 1.10 lakhs from Akola, 6.15 lakhs from Raipur, 13 lakhs from Indore, 2.30 lakhs from Gwalior, 10.25 lakhs from Jaipur, 2.15 lakhs from Jodhpur, 2 lakhs from Ajmer, 1.40 lakhs from Bikaner, 3.50 lakhs from Kota, 25.85 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.50 lakhs Aurangabad, 1.20 lakhs from Nanded, 1.70 lakhs from Gulbarga, 25 lakhs from Bangalore, 2.50 lakhs from Mangalore, 1.50 lakhs from Vishakhapatnam, 4.40 lakhs from Madras and 1.40 lakhs from Kochi. Adding a further 8.75 crore, BADMAASH COMPANY has netted about 29 crores in two weeks from India. The Shahid-Anushka starrer is now a semi-hit. The film though has failed to appeal to the Overseas audience grossing ?122,000 from UK, up to the third weekend (21-23 May)
Concluding this week's box-office report once again with Sajid Nadiadwala's HOUSEFULL, as expected the film had a very stable week as compared to the last one, because the number of shows (especially at the multiplexes) are about the same as the previous week. The film yields good shares collecting 60 lakhs from Bombay (collections from 32 cinemas unreceived), 32 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 4.15 lakhs from Baroda, 1.20 lakhs from Palanpur, 1 lakh from Patan, 5 lakhs from Rajkot, 2.25 lakhs each from Jamnagar and Bhavnagar, 1 lakh from Gandhidham, 6 lakhs from Pune, 2 lakhs from Solapur, 3.65 lakhs from Nasik, 2.60 lakhs from Goa, 80 lakhs from Delhi city, 9.75 lakhs from Noida, 8.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 9.70 lakhs from Kanpur, 16.15 lakhs from Lucknow, 4.55 lakhs from Agra, 4.10 lakhs from Allahabad, 1.35 lakhs each from Meerut and Bareilly, 13.35 lakhs from Gurgaon, 7 lakhs from Faridabad, 7.65 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1.50 lakhs from Zirakpur, 2 lakhs from Bhatinda, 3.15 lakhs from Ludhiana, 2.20 lakhs from Amritsar, 1 lakh from Panipat, 1.15 lakhs from Pathankot, 14 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.75 lakhs from Siliguri, 1 lakh from Guwahati, 8.05 lakhs from Nagpur, 4.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 1.80 lakhs each from Amravati and Akola, 4.50 lakhs from Raipur, 9.25 lakhs from Indore, 1.65 lakhs from Sehore, 2.50 lakhs from Gwalior, 6.25 lakhs from Bhopal, 20.75 lakhs Jaipur, 2.65 lakhs from Jodhpur, 2.05 lakhs from Bikaner, 2.65 lakhs from Ajmer, 3.40 lakhs from Kota, 16.05 lakhs from Hyderabad, 2 lakhs from Aurangabad, 1.05 lakhs from Gulbarga, 14.60 lakhs from Bangalore and 1.35 lakhs from Mangalore. Adding a further 6.90 crores, HOUSEFULL has netted an impressive 67.80 crore in three weeks from India. The Sajid Khan directed Akshay Kumar, Lara Dutta, Riteish Deshmukh, Deepika Padukone and Arjun Rampal starrer HOUSEFULL is a clean hit from India. The film has also done quite well in the Overseas (though it was expected to do better) grossing ?671,236 from UK up to the fourth weekend (21-23 May) and $1,183,658 from US (till 20th May).
