Bollywood box-office report of the week : 29 march 2012

This week will see the release of Kunal Deshmukh's BLOOD MONEY along with RCL Motion Pictures' BUMBOO. As things stand today, the usual musical buzz associated with a Bhatt camp venture is missing (as also the star power of Emraan Hashmi!) for BLOOD MONEY.

Having said that BLOOD MONEY will still perform much better than the other release of the week, BUMBOO, which is unlikely to achieve anything significant at the ticket window. Another factor that will affect the new releases is the presence of AGENT VINOD as well as the still strong KAHAANI!

While on last Friday's 62 crore (all inclusive) Saif-Kareena starrer, AGENT VINOD, the Sriram Raghavan directed film saw a good to decent start on the first day, and was very steady during the opening weekend (though a big Sunday jump was missing). The film netted 28-29 crores (to be validated) from India, the best ever opening weekend for a Saif solo. Given the fact that the makers have already recovered 25 crores by way of satellite and audio rights, the film will now have to rely on the theatrical run from India and overseas to get to the plus side.

AGENT VINOD has done quite well in the overseas (barring UK) grossing ?160,000 from UK and $427,000 from the US, during the opening weekend (23-25 March).

Moving on, Sujoy Ghosh's KAHAANI continued to be rock steady even in the second week as it collected 3.25 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 1 crore from Ahmedabad, 13.25 lakhs from Surat, 22.70 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 5 cinemas unreceived), 18 lakhs from Rajkot, 35 lakhs from Pune, 10 lakhs from Nasik, 6.20 lakhs from Goa, 2.75 lakhs from Belgaum, 2.50 crore from Delhi city, 35 lakhs from Noida, 18.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 8.35 lakhs from Kanpur, 22 lakhs from Lucknow, 4.55 lakhs from Agra, 5.50 lakhs from Allahabad, 50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 6.35 lakhs from Faridabad, 1.50 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 2.50 lakhs from Panipat, 13.75 lakhs from Chandigarh, 3 lakhs from Jalandhar, 2 lakhs from Amritsar, 3.50 lakhs from Ludhiana, 2 lakhs from Bhatinda, 2 lakhs from Ambala, 1.65 crore from Calcutta, 1.10 lakhs from Darjeeling, 8.30 lakhs from Siliguri, 5 lakhs from Guwahati, 20.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 5.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 10 lakhs from Raipur, 19.50 lakhs from Indore, 3 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 11.70 lakhs from Bhopal, 25 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 2 lakhs from Ajmer, 4 lakhs from Kota, 45 lakhs from Hyderabad, 3.20 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 90 lakhs from Bangalore, 6 lakhs from Mangalore, 1.50 lakhs from Vijayawada, 5 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 18 lakhs from Madras and 4.30 lakhs from Kochi.

Adding another 19 crores KAHAANI has netted a superb 42.50 crores in two weeks from India and is a super hit. The Vidya Balan starrer has also done superbly in the overseas (especially US) grossing ?190,300 from UK and $824,500 from the US till the third weekend (23-25 March).

After an ordinary first week Samir Karnik's CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI crashed in the second as it collected 5 lakhs from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 4.75 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 2 lakhs from Surat, 1.75 lakhs from Rajkot, 8.50 lakhs from Delhi city, 2 lakhs from Noida, 1.50 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 1 lakh from Kanpur, 1 lakh from Lucknow, 1.25 lakhs from Agra, 1 lakh from Chandigarh, 1.50 lakhs from Amritsar, 1 lakh from Nagpur, 1 lakh from Raipur, 1 lakh from Indore and 2 lakhs from Jaipur.

Adding another 75 lakhs, CHAAR DIN KI CHANDNI has netted a poor 5.25 crores in two weeks from India and has flopped.

Meanwhile Tigmanshu Dhulia's PAAN SINGH TOMAR continues its superb run with another bountiful week collecting 50 lakhs from Bombay, 10 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 1.75 lakhs from Surat, 2.30 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 5.75 lakhs from Pune, 50 lakhs from Delhi city, 9.50 lakhs from Noida, 4.35 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 3.50 lakhs from Kanpur, 5.55 lakhs from Lucknow, 3 lakhs from Agra, 2 lakhs from Allahabad, 13.55 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2 lakhs from Faridabad, 4 lakhs from Chandigarh, 6.30 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.35 lakhs from Nagpur, 3 lakhs from Jabalpur, 4 lakhs from Raipur, 10 lakhs from Indore, 2.15 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 7 lakhs from Bhopal, 10 lakhs from Jaipur, 1.25 lakhs from Kota, 3 lakhs from Hyderabad and 7.50 lakhs from Bangalore.
