Bollywood box-office report of the week : 3 may 2012

JANNAT 2
This Friday will see the release of Kunal Deshmukh's Emraan Hashmi, Randeep Hooda and Esha Gupta starrer, JANNAT 2. Given the popularity of the music and the anticipation created by the superb promotion, JANNAT 2 is all set to embark on a good if not great start.

Last week's big release was the Priyadarshan directed Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn and Kangana Ranaut starrer, TEZZ. As we had already indicated in our last report, surprisingly despite good production values, big names and reasonable music the film had little hype surrounding it.

And that is exactly what happened. From the first day itself TEZZ saw a lukewarm response from the audience and showed no growth during the weekend and crashed completely from Monday. The film has also been rejected in the overseas grossing ?59,000 from UK and $148,200 from the US during the opening weekend (27-29 April).

The other release of the same week, LIFE KI TOH LAG GAYI found little or no support from the paying audience and has failed.

Though the first day honours went to HATE STORY but after that it was Shoojit Sircar's Ayushmann Khurrana starrer VICKY DONOR all the way as the film went from strength to strength collecting 2.35 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 40 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 20 lakhs from Baroda, 5.40 lakhs from Rajkot, 27.75 lakhs from Pune, 7 lakhs from Nasik, 5.30 lakhs from Goa, 3.20 lakhs from Belgaum, 2.85 crore from Delhi city, 35.50 lakhs from Noida, 21.55 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 8 lakhs from Kanpur, 14.30 lakhs from Lucknow, 5 lakhs from Agra, 3.70 lakhs from Allahabad, 60 lakhs from Gurgaon, 5.80 lakhs from Faridabad, 4.35 lakhs from Panipat, 17.65 lakhs from Chandigarh, 7.50 lakhs from Jalandhar, 4.15 lakhs from Amritsar, 3.65 lakhs from Bhatinda, 5.15 lakhs from Ludhiana, 3.35 lakhs from Ambala, 50 lakhs from Calcutta, 13 lakhs from Nagpur, 4 lakhs from Jabalpur, 8.30 lakhs from Raipur, 20 lakhs from Indore, 2.75 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 10 lakhs from Bhopal, 30 lakhs from Jaipur, 2.40 lakhs from Ajmer, 4.25 lakhs from Kota, 5.50 lakhs from Udaipur, 30.65 lakhs from Hyderabad, 2.40 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 55 lakhs from Bangalore, 6.20 lakhs from Mangalore, 1.25 lakhs from Vijayawada, 3.50 lakhs from Visakhapatnam and 1.55 lakhs from Madras (collections from other cinemas unreceived).
