This week will see the release of the much awaited Ajay, Abhishek, Prachi and Asin starrer, BOL BACHCHAN. Though (surprisingly!) the film is not carrying the big hype associated with the usual Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgn project, but still the potent combo will ensure that BOL BACHCHAN embarks on a good start, especially in the Mumbai-Gujarat belt. The other release of the week, 3 BACHELORS, is likely to sink without a trace.
Last Friday's Kabeer Kaushik directed MAXIMUM took an expected pounding from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, and one feels that the Naseer-Sonu starrer would have fared better had it released on another date.
After a slow start, Kunal Kohli's Shahid-Priyanka starrer, TERI MERI KAHAANI, failed to improve and after a dull weekend (16 crore) crashed Monday onward. The film though has done well in overseas (good in US) grossing ?361,000 from UK and $ 671,500 from the US, till the second weekend (June 29-July 1).
Meanwhile Anurag Kashyap's GANGS OF WASSEYPUR surprised with quite stable collection, even at many elite cinemas, as it collected 3 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 55 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 9.50 lakhs from Surat, 15 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 5.65 lakhs from Rajkot, 35 lakhs from Pune, 9.25 lakhs from Nasik, 4.50 lakhs from Goa, 2.65 lakhs from Belgaum, 2.55 crore from Delhi city, 36.50 lakhs from Noida, 25 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 17.55lakhs from Kanpur, 34 lakhs from Lucknow, 5.50lakhs from Agra, 7 lakhs from Allahabad, 2.30 lakhs from Aligarh, 60 lakhs from Gurgaon, 6.50 lakhs from Faridabad, 2 lakhs from Kurukshetra, 2.70 lakhs from Panipat, 11 lakhs from Chandigarh, 4.65 lakhs from Jalandhar, 2 lakhs from Amritsar, 2 lakhs from Ludhiana, 1.75 lakhs from Bhatinda, 1.35lakhs from Ambala, 35 lakhs from Calcutta, 2.65 lakhs from Siliguri, 2.60 lakhs from Guwahati, 20 lakhs from Nagpur, 10.20 lakhs from Jabalpur, 8 lakhs from Raipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 28.50 lakhs from Indore (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 4.70 lakhs from Gwalior (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 10 lakhs from Bhopal, 35 lakhs from Jaipur (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 2.50 lakhs from Ajmer, 2.25 lakhs from Bikaner, 6 lakhs from Kota, 30 lakhs from Hyderabad, 5.50 lakhs from Aurangabad (collections from 2 cinemas unreceived), 50 lakhs from Bangalore, 1 lakh from Vijayawada, 1.75 lakhs from Visakhapatnam, 1.50 lakhs from Madras and 1.35 lakhs from Kochi. Netting 17.50 crores during the opening week from India, GANGS OF WASSEYPUR is all set to succeed at the ticket. A great news for the highly versatile but unfortunate actor Manoj Bajpai.
Moving on, Vidhu Vinod Chopra's FERRARI KI SAWAARI could not sustain in the second week as it fell heavily collecting 1.75 crore from Bombay (collections from other cinemas unreceived), 30 lakhs from Ahmedabad, 8 lakhs from Surat, 10.70 lakhs from Baroda (collections from 3 cinemas unreceived), 5.15 lakhs from Rajkot, 15.50 lakhs from Pune, 6 lakhs from Nasik, 3 lakhs from Goa, 1.50 lakhs from Belgaum, 90 lakhs from Delhi city, 12 lakhs from Noida, 7.35 lakhs from Ghaziabad, 4 lakhs from Kanpur, 7 lakhs from Lucknow, 1.70 lakhs from Agra, 1.55 lakhs from Allahabad, 25 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2.35 lakhs from Faridabad, 1 lakhs from Panipat, 6.55 lakhs from Chandigarh, 1 lakh from Amritsar,1.60 lakhs from Ludhiana, 21.75 lakhs from Calcutta, 1.75 lakhs from Siliguri, 1.65lakhs from Guwahati, 10.50 lakhs from Nagpur, 4.50 lakhs from Jabalpur, 2.70 lakhs from Raipur, 8 lakhs from Indore, 1.35 lakhs from Gwalior, 15 lakhs from Jaipur, 2.20 lakhs from Ajmer, 2 lakhs from Kota, 7 lakhs from Hyderabad, 1.10 lakhs from Aurangabad(collections from 2 cinemas unreceived) and 25 lakhs from Bangalore. Adding another 6.50 crores FERRARI KI SAWAARI has netted 26.50 crores in two weeks from India. And though the film is a personal triumph for Sharman Joshi (as a solo hero), given the high price at which it was sold to the global distributor, it is a commercial failure. The film has done well in the overseas (good in US) grossing ? 138,000 from UK and $ 4,20,046 from the US till the third weekend (29 June – July 1).
Checking out Dibaker Banerjee's Abhay, Emraan, Kalki and Pitobash starrer, SHANGHAI, the film is ending it's run as it collected 10 lakhs from Bombay, 10 lakhs from Delhi city, 2.50 lakhs from Gurgaon, 2 lakhs from Calcutta, 3.35 lakhs from Hyderabad and 3 lakhs from Bangalore.
