On Thursday, the trailer of the four-part docu-series The Roshans released, to give the public a closer insight into one of the most iconic families of Bollywood, from Roshan Lal to Rajesh Roshan, Rakesh Roshan, and Hrithik Roshan, through accounts of their counterparts in the film fraternity.
The trailer begins with Hrithik Roshan recounting the family’s name-change from Nagrath to Roshan, a decision made by legendary music-director Roshan Lal Nagrath, grandfather of Rajesh Roshan. The series pays homage to the family’s artistic achievements; famed singer Asha Bhonsle commented that it was difficult to find four artists from a single family that made their mark in Indian cinema.
Many Bollywood personalities feature in the teaser. Shah Rukh Khan relates Rajesh to Rakesh Roshan, comparing him to a Karan Arjun. “Hrithik is a phenomenon,” Ranbir Kapoor said, commenting on him after 25 years of emergence into the industry. Other contributors include Anil Kapoor, Sonu Nigam, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Vicky Kaushal, Preity Zinta, and Priyanka Chopra.
The trailer highlights such instances as Rakesh Roshan being missed by a bullet during one of his close-shave episodes and changes to Hrithik from an introvert to a complete Bollywood celebrity. One of those humorous moments is Rajesh Roshan, who joked that the charisma of his brother was such that he would tell his friends to steer clear of him.
Those who direct The Roshans work with their memories and with accuracy, portraying an intimate character of a family that altered the Bollywood backdrop. Their tales of struggle and brilliance will resonate with fans and cinephiles alike.
The streaming began on Netflix on January 17, 2025.
