The first trailer of Gram Chikitsalay, the new Prime Video original series, has released and is already generating buzz for its new and entertaining spin on medical care in rural India. Amol Parashar and Vinay Pathak will play main roles in the series, premiering on May 9, 2025.
It is set in a fictional village of Bhitkandi and features Dr. Prabhat (played by Amol Parashar), who is an honest government-appointed physician who is resolute to impart proper medical attention to the people. His work, though, is greeted with suspicion and disinterest by the villagers, as they are staunchly devoted to a local so-called healer portrayed by Vinay Pathak. This “doctor” bases his treatments on home remedies and online diagnoses, and humorously, his haphazard clinic is always full while the official government hospital is empty.
The trailer captures the juxtaposition of contemporary medicine with the old, many times unscientific, local ways. Amol’s character tours door to door encouraging villagers to put faith in qualified treatment. Simultaneously, Vinay Pathak’s quirky style and charisma ensure that the villagers firmly support him. The series mixes comedy with pathos, the hardship of true medical professionals in a place where superstition and misinformation dictate health decisions.
