Maa Review: Kajol’s Maa film lags behind the film Shaitan in scaring

Kajol’s new film “Maa” is a mythological horror film based on the life of a mother and daughter. In this film, Kajol plays the role of a determined mother who risks everything to save her daughter from dark supernatural forces. Ajay Devgn and Jio Films have produced this film. Vishal Furia is the director of the film. The film Maa has been made a part of the 2024 hit film Shaitaan Universe.

Story
The story of the film is based on the journey of a mother and daughter. After the death of her husband, she goes to her husband’s village with her only 12-year-old daughter Shweta to sell her old ancestral house. After reaching there, strange things start happening. The story of the demon is revealed in the village. Kajol wants to return to the city with her daughter but she is surrounded by demons. After that, Kajol herself becomes a warrior to save her daughter from the mysterious and demonic curse and makes every possible effort to save her daughter.

The film begins with a daughter being born to a family in a village and is immediately sacrificed. The story then moves forward 40 years to where Kajol’s family is living in the city. Now what is Kajol’s relationship with that family? Why was that newborn baby girl sacrificed? To know whether Kajol succeeds in saving her daughter or not, you will have to watch the film Maa.

Writing and Direction
The story of the film Maa has been written by Ajit Jagatap, Ameel Kian Khan and Sevan Quadras. In this film, a tadka of horror has been added to mythology which has become its weak link. I feel that this film neither became a complete mythology nor a horror. There is suspense in the story but it is a bit confusing too. The pace of the film is good but at some places it fails to keep the audience engaged. The film Maa is directed by Vishal Furia. Vishal’s direction is fine as per the written story. The special effects in the film are good and it seems that a lot of hard work has been done on the special effects. An attempt has been made to scare people with these special effects and background music.

Acting
In the film, Kajol plays a determined mother who does not care about her life to save her daughter. Kajol has played her role well. Ronit Roy has acted well and has captured the Bengali accent well.

Overall
The film Maa has been made a part of the film Shaitaan Universe. The horror of the film Shaitan really scared us. Every scene of the character of Shaitaan made us feel scared but the film Maa is not that scary and neither is there any scary character like R Madhavan in the film Maa. Special effects and background music have been used to make this film a horror film. Due to these special effects, some scenes have succeeded in scaring a lot.
