After nearly 23 years, Anupam Kher has once again taken over the reins of direction. In his film, Anupam Kher has tried to weave a lot of emotions along with the spirit of patriotism and he has been successful to a great extent. The first scene of the film itself makes you emotional when Tanvi’s father Karan Tacker talks to her on the phone and that is his last call. Anupam Kher has also produced this film.
Story
This is the story of Tanvi, an autistic girl whose father was in the army and was martyred. Tanvi goes to live with her grandfather in Lansdowne who is retired from the army. Tanvi’s autistic mother, played by Pallavi, leaves her daughter with her grandfather, i.e. Anupam Kher, and goes to America to attend an event of World Autism Foundation. Now Tanvi is alone with her grandfather and there she sees something that makes her want to join the army and fulfill her father’s dream. And then Tanvi’s battle begins because how can a girl who can’t even cross the threshold properly join the army?
Writing and Direction
The story of the film Tanvi is penned by Anupam Kher and is inspired by real life. Tanvi is an autistic child whom he has seen closely, so her story connects you emotionally. Apart from Anupam Kher, this film has been written by Ankur Suman and Abhishek Dixit. Tanvi the Great is a film that teaches you a lot about life. As a director, Anupam Kher has put in a lot of emotions which will bring tears to your eyes. There is an attempt to add some humour in some places. But the weak link of the film is its length. This film is almost three hours long which could have been 20 minutes shorter. If the length of the film was shorter, its screenplay would have been faster. There are some scenes in the film that create drama and I feel that such a good story did not require much drama.
Acting
Shubhangi Dutt has lived the character of Tanvi. This is her first film but she looks very confident. She connects with this character in a great way. You find everything about him amazing. Anupam Kher’s acting is beyond question. His fight to fulfill his granddaughter’s dream is amazing. Pallavi Joshi has also played the role of Tanvi’s mother well. Boman Irani is a very skilled actor but I feel that his character was not written well. He did not have much to do.
How is the film?
You can call it an experience, you can call it therapy, because this film makes you feel a lot. After watching this film, you feel that even though our hands and legs are intact, we still think that we cannot do this, we cannot do that and this girl wants to join the army. The film repeatedly brings tears to your eyes and gives you courage. It gives you a new motivation in life and increases respect for the army.
Music
The music of the film is given by M M Karim and it suits the story of the film. Some songs are good to listen to. The background music is also good according to the story.
