While perfectionist Aamir Khan’s kitty never had a dearth of superhits or good films and he has always been meticulous in choosing his projects (which would reap him benefits unfailingly), to our surprise the superstar still missed out on few films that created new records in Indian Cinema.
And, interestingly the films that he rejected were the career-defining roles of Bollywood Badshah, Shah Rukh Khan.
Regardless of their hit/flop status, the films went on to sway audiences’ hearts and SRK emerged as the ‘King’. So, check out the movies that were Shah Rukh’s gain but Aamir’s loss!
DARR:Reportedly, the role of an obsessive lover that SRK played was initially offered to Aamir. However, as Aamir rejected it went to SRK and the film was a superhit.
DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE:Had Aamir not turned down DDLJ, Shah Rukh Khan wouldn’t have gained his first ‘All Time Blockbuster’ or rather the biggest blockbuster of his career and Indian Cinema. Shah Rukh made his character ‘Raj’ a household name and earned the new tag of ‘Romantic King’.
DIL TOH PAGAL HAI:Yash Chopra’s super hit flick starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit & Karisma Kapoor was also apparently offered to Aamir.
MOHABBATEIN: If reports are to be believed, then yet another super hit film from the Yash Raj banner, the multi-starrer MOHABBATEIN went to Aamir first. However, later on Shah Rukh was finalized to play ‘Raj’.
JOSH: Aamir wanted to play the role of Max (which was offered to Shah Rukh Khan). He was being given Chandrachur’s part; however he denied and walked out of it. And the film eventually became Shah Rukh Khan starrer!
SWADES: After directing Aamir Khan in a landmark film like LAGAAN, Ashutosh offered his second film to Aamir. But as reports suggest he turned down the film and it went to SRK. Though the film wasn’t a hit, it was a career-defining role for Shah Rukh.
