Bollywood’s horror genre takes a unique mythological turn with Maa, a new supernatural thriller featuring Kajol in a powerful and terrifying role. The trailer for the Vishal Furia-directed movie was released today, and audiences already can’t wait to see how the movie’s dark visuals, eerie atmosphere, and emotionally charged plot will unfold.
Scheduled for release in theaters on June 27, 2025, Maa will promise to deliver horror, folklore, and maternal love into a frightening movie experience.
A Mother’s Fury Unleashed
The trailer begins with Kajol traveling along a deserted road at night with her on-screen daughter when a dead body falls suddenly onto their vehicle, initiating a chain of ghostly happenings. The daughter and mother take shelter in an antique mansion, but as curiosity overcomes the child, she ventures into a restricted place with another girl. “No one comes here. Everyone says a rakshas stays here,” the girl threatens, sparking a chain of fear and mystery.

When things go out of hand, Kajol’s character has to deal with age-old evil forces in order to save her daughter. The climax takes the shape of her turning into Kali, the fierce manifestation of maternal fury, guardianship, and strength. With the themes of fear, blood, and treason, Maa questions up to how far a mother will go when her child’s life is on the line.
Star Cast and Production
Directed by Vishal Furia, who has previously worked in the horror genre, Maa has a stellar ensemble cast such as Indraneil Sengupta, Ronit Roy, Kherin Sharma, Jitin Gulati, Gopal Singh, Surjyasikha Das, Yaaneea Bharadwaj, and Roopkatha Chakraborty.
The film is co-presented by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, and produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande. Kumar Mangat Pathak has co-produced it.
Nysa Devgn Not Entering Bollywood
During the trailer release, Ajay Devgn was quizzed on if he was going to cast his daughter, Nysa Devgn, in Maa. He categorically replied, “She is not interested in this kind of work,” silencing the rumors that had been circulating. Kajol reiterated something similar during News18’s Rising Bharat Summit 2025, stating Nysa, who is set to turn 22, has no plans on joining the film industry currently.
With its thrilling premise and phenomenal performances, Maa will be one of the most eagerly awaited horror films this year, mixing emotion, mythology, and chilling fright.
