Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar and director Priyadarshan have spoken about Rajpal Yadav’s ongoing legal troubles related to a cheque bounce case. Rajpal Yadav, who went to jail last month for allegedly not repaying borrowed money to produce a film, is currently out on interim bail. The actor’s situation has sparked concern and advice from industry colleagues, especially about the challenges actors face when stepping into film production.
Akshay Kumar, who will be seen sharing screen space with Rajpal in the upcoming film Bhooth Bangla, advised actors to avoid producing films if they do not understand the process fully. He told SCREEN that actors should stick to acting and avoid trying to earn money quickly through shortcuts. “We are actors, and producers know how to produce a film, so you should not try to be a producer when you don’t know the trick,” said Akshay. He also praised Rajpal Yadav’s talent, saying that when the actor gives his best, he delivers even more than expected. Akshay added that their natural banter on set makes working together a lot of fun, and sometimes they even improvise lines that impress the director Priyadarshan.
Priyadarshan, who has directed 98 films but never produced one himself, shared a similar viewpoint. He explained that many successful directors start producing their films, but he prefers to focus on directing. Speaking about his work with Rajpal, Priyadarshan highlighted their comic chemistry, particularly the physical comedy in Bhooth Bangla, comparing Akshay and Rajpal’s on-screen dynamic to that of Tom and Jerry.
Bhooth Bangla, which is scheduled to release on April 10, 2026, is one of the most anticipated films of the year. The makers have reportedly planned to release the trailer on March 30, although this is yet to be officially confirmed. The teaser, released earlier, was widely appreciated by the audience. The film also stars Tabu, Wamiqa Gabbi, Asrani, and Paresh Rawal, adding to the excitement.
