Often described as Bollywood’s “first family,” the Kapoor klan is ready to open their doors-and their dining table-to viewers with their latest Netflix show titled Dining With The Kapoors. The show promises an amalgamation of filmic tales, personal anecdotes, and light-hearted banter, bringing several generations of the iconic family together. But upon the announcement, fans were quick to note that Alia Bhatt was missing, thus piquing curiosity as to why she is not part of the keenly awaited assemblage.
Armaan Jain and Smriti Mundhra, creators of the show, recently spoke with Bollywood Hungama about the speculation. Armaan shared that Alia had prior professional commitments. He said, “I might sound filmy, but like Raj Kapoor said, ‘work is worship’.” Mundhra agreed, continuing, “The Kapoors are extremely committed to work.” According to her, the family tries to make it possible for everyone to come together during important dates in their lives, but there are always one or two individuals who cannot join in. Armaan interjected, adding that this is often the case when families get together for Christmas and Diwali.
The series boasts an impressive ensemble of the Kapoor family: Randhir Kapoor and his daughters, Kareena Kapoor and Karisma Kapoor; Reema Jain and her sons, Adar and Armaan Jain; and Neetu Kapoor with her children, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni and Ranbir Kapoor. Joining them are Kunal Kapoor, Zahan Kapoor, Nitasha Nanda, Navya Naveli Nanda, Agastya Nanda, Neila Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Anissa Jain, and Bharat Sahni to make it one of the biggest family reunions on screen.
Though Alia couldn’t be there for the shoot, she was in full support for the project. Sharing the promo on her Instagram stories, Alia wrote, “From my experience, this is going to be too much fun. Congratulations Armani… what an amazing job putting this together.”
The trailer captures the warm and affectionate spirit of the Kapoor family. It starts with Kareena Kapoor describing them as “funny, loving and united,” with a shared passion for food. The luncheon was organized by Armaan Jain as a tribute to the late Raj Kapoor on what would have been his 100th birth anniversary. There are sneak peeks of Ranbir and Armaan pulling each other’s legs inside the kitchen, animated discussions on the dining table, and Kareena being teased for her voracious appetite and even her interest in Bollywood gossip.
