Ashwani Dhir: Sonakshi is natural as a Punjabi

Ashwani Dhir roped in an array of heroines for his directorial debut affair ONE TWO THREE and then brought in Ms. dependable Konkona Sen Sharma for his second film ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE. However when it came to his most commercial and big budgeted film till date, SON OF SARDAAR, the girl who was roped in was Sonakshi Sinha. While this film based on Punjab has turned out to be an authentic affair bringing Punjabis and their culture on screen, one notable entrant is Sonakshi Sinha who comes with Bihari origin.

”Well, now that the film is for all to see, you would agree that even if her name was Sonakshi Kaur and not Sonakshi Sinha, no one would have noticed the difference,” says Ashwani, ”Whether it is her looks, features or the body structure, it would deceive anyone that she is coming straight from Punjab. She has done a fantastic job in the film and what has impressed me most is that even though this is just her fourth film, she is way too natural.”

What hasn’t surprised audience though is the return of Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt, two quintessential Punjabis who also happen to be friends in the real life.

Laughs Ashwani, ”You know what, Sanju sir was always pitched to be the surprise package of the film. His AGNEEPATH had released when we were shooting for SON OF SARDAAR. In that film he had a larger than life persona and a dominating image. In our film he has an altogether different look with a comic streak to his character. Now that’s something that has been lapped up by the audience.”
