Director Atlee has finally addressed the speculation surrounding Jawan 2, confirming that a sequel toShah Rukh Khan’s 2023 blockbuster is not happening anytime soon. In a recent interview, the filmmaker clarified that while he fully intends to collaborate with SRK again, it won’t be for Jawan 2 in the near future.
Speaking to Hindustan Times, Atlee shared, “I think Shah Rukh sir and I will definitely work on something together. But Jawan 2, I personally feel, will happen some years later. It’s not the immediate next project. When the right flow comes, we’ll look into it.” His statement has put to rest ongoing rumours that the sequel was already in development.
Adding fuel to speculation, fans had also wondered if Atlee would be directing Don 3, the much-awaited reboot of the iconic franchise starring Shah Rukh Khan. However, the director quickly dismissed those claims. “Oh oh! That’s a rumour. I also read it. No no, nothing like that,” he said, laughing off the reports.
Atlee also opened up about his admiration for Shah Rukh Khan during a recent public appearance, where he was asked to pick the best pickleball partner among the actors he has worked with. Without hesitation, he named SRK. “All my heroes are great players, but Shah Rukh sir is into sports with KKR. He’s into cinema, he’s on shooting schedules, and still finds time for coaching, planning, and team strategy. I’m inspired by him. That’s why I’d call him my partner,” Atlee said, highlighting SRK’s multitasking brilliance.
Released in 2023, Jawan went on to become a historic box office phenomenon. The film told the gripping story of a prison warden who joins forces with inmates to expose corruption and injustice through daring missions. Shah Rukh Khan delivered a powerhouse performance in dual roles — Captain Vikram Rathore, an ex-commando, and Azad, the jailer of a women’s prison and Vikram’s son.
The film’s mix of high-octane action, emotional depth, and strong social messaging struck a chord with audiences nationwide. Jawan went on to collect over ₹600 crore at the domestic box office, becoming India’s highest-grossing film of the year.
While fans may have to wait longer for Jawan 2, Atlee’s confirmation that another SRK collaboration is in the pipeline is enough to keep excitement alive. For now, the blockbuster duo is simply waiting for the right story — and the right moment — to reunite on screen.
