Continuing with our special series on legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar’s 84th Birthday, we bring you yet another fascinating fact from her life!
On 21st March, 1974, Lataji got the rare honour to sing in Royal Albert Hall of London, which up till then had never permitted ANY INDIAN to perform! It’s reported that about six thousand tickets were purchased by only Pakistanis residing in London! Plus fans from Paris, Canada, Germany flew down to attend the show, which went packed-houses. Lata sang around 21 songs of which two were in Marathi composed by Hridayanath Mangeshkar, Lata’s younger brother, and one each in Gujarati and Bengali. Lata climaxed the show with her patriotic ‘best’ – Aye mere watan ke logon…
