Fadnavis also expressed his discontent with historians, claiming that they have not provided Sambhaji Maharaj the due credit he deserves in the pages of history. His assertion brings to the fore the existing controversy regarding the way historical characters, especially those in Indian history, are presented and remembered.

The Film’s Impact and Cast

The movie Chhaava, which has been receiving appreciation for its depiction of the Maratha warrior, features Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The film is about the life and plight of Sambhaji Maharaj, a central character in the Maratha Empire, who fought courageously against the Mughal Empire. Some of the other prominent cast members are Rashmika Mandanna, Ashutosh Rana, Divya Dutta, and Pradeep Ram Singh Rawat, among others. Akshay Khanna is cast as Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb, the monarch who had Sambhaji Maharaj tortured and killed, a historical fact that was controversial when Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azam Azmi defended Aurangzeb in the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly, for which he was suspended.

Box Office Success

Chhaava has not only been appreciated for its narrative but is also doing great business at the box office. The movie is about to reach the 500 crore mark soon, leaving behind many other movies in terms of earnings. The good word of mouth from critics and audiences alike has carried on into the third week of its release, making Chhaava a huge hit and an important movie in commemorating the history of the Maratha Empire.

To conclude, the movie Chhaava is not merely a cinematic representation; it has generated debate regarding historical account, identification of historical persons, and the manner in which history is taught and commemorated in contemporary India.
