As reported by NDTV on Monday, Bollywood legend Dharmendra has been admitted to a hospital and is currently on ventilator support. The 89-year-old actor has been taken into the Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai close to a week ago after he complained of difficulty in breathing.
According to ABP News, Dharmendra’s condition deteriorated in the last couple of days following which the doctors shifted him to the ICU early this morning. Sources say his condition turned critical in the morning, for which he was put on a ventilator. However, reports say the veteran actor is responding to treatment now. Many family members, including his wife and actress Hema Malini, have been visiting the hospital frequently.
No official statement has emerged yet from either the hospital or the actor’s family in relation to his condition. Earlier reports from IANS had suggested that the actor was taken initially for a routine check-up, but remained under observation as his condition failed to improve. Last week Hema Malini briefly reassured the media that at that time, he was doing “okay”.
Dharmendra, affectionately known as the “He-Man of Bollywood,” has had a career spanning over six decades. Classics where he earned much acclaim include Sholay, Chupke Chupke, and Satyakam. Earlier this year, he underwent an eye graft surgery in April.
The actor was last seen in Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, starring Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon. He is also set to appear in Ikkis, featuring Agastya Nanda and Jaideep Ahlawat, and in Apne 2 alongside his sons Sunny and Bobby Deol, and grandson Karan Deol. Fans across the nation are praying for his speedy recovery.
