Dharmesh Darshan: Dilip Kumar has talent, SRK is amazing!

The debate about self made stars versus scions of famous filmy families is almost as old as the industry itself. Legends like Dilip Kumar, Sunil Dutt, Dharmendra etc. and from the current top stars, Shahrukh Khan and Akshay Kumar, who have made it big by the sheer dint of their labour and talent are standout examples. But the one cannot question the brilliance of an Aamir Khan, the towering screen presence of a Sanjay Dutt or Sunny Deol or even the star power and charisma of a Salman Khan and Hrithik Roshan, who all have filmy background but are super stars in their own right.

When we recently put up this question to one the best personality from the film industry who can enlighten us on this subject, Dharmesh Darshan, having directed the likes of Aamir Khan (RAJA HINDUSTANI), Akshay Kumar (DHADKAN and BEWAFAA), Abhishek Bachchan (HAAN MAINE BHI PYAAR KIYA HAI) etc, his reply was very apt and to the point.

Dharmesh smiled and said, ”Yes, this is always going to be a debatable subject. But in the end it’s talent and hard labour that matters and not connections.” Pausing for a while he went on to say, ”Dilip Kumar had no godfather in the industry, but he made it to the top because he has immense talent. Shahrukh Khan has done an amazing job with the way he has handled his career and work. On the hind sight there are numerous examples of star children who belonged to very influential filmy background but the audience rejected them straightway.”

Well, Dharmesh’s reply, however befitting, may not end the debate but will definitely find many takers who will relate to his thinking.
