This week’s new solo release, Dibakar Banerjee’s Farooq Sheikh, Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi, Pitobash Tripathy and Kalki Koechlin starrer, SHANGHAI, was never expected to set the screens on fire, more so due to the still strong ROWDY RATHORE. So it comes as no surprise that the film did not!

SHANGHAI ROWDY RATHORE |
Coming to the number crunching, the opening of SHANGHAI at the multiplexes varied from 15-25 percent with the higher collections coming from ‘A’ centers (Chandigarh is very good). Thankfully, there was a perceptible pickup noticed during the latter shows. The single screens are expectedly poor at below 10 percent.

Given the logistics, despite a dull start and a formidable opponent like ROWDY RATHORE, SHANGHAI still has good chances to get to the positive side of the fulcrum.
Meanwhile after a superb 48.50 crore weekend, last week’s Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha starrer, ROWDY RATHORE, continued its box-office dominance, even during the weekdays, with rock steady collections.
During the first week the Prabhudheva directed film has netted a huge 79-80 crore (to be validated once collections from all circuits come in). The film is expected to cross the 100 crore barrier by the second weekend, as we had already indicated.
As things stand, ROWDY RATHORE is a sure shot super hit and it will be interesting to see if it ends up as Akshay Kumar’s first solo blockbuster as well.
