It was an interesting clash at the box-office this week, whereby a three time span love story, Kunal Kohli’s TERI MERI KAHAANI, released against Anurag Kashyap’s violent action hinterland drama, GANGS OF WASSEYPUR. Though both the films belonged to diametrically opposite genres, yet the audience did not give a whole hearted response to either of the two ventures. The youth did prefer the love story, TERI MERI KAHAANI, as opposed to the festival favourite GANGS OF WASSEYPUR.

Coming to the number crunching, the Shahid-Priyanka starrer TMK opened to a dull response of around 30 percent with some Delhi-NCR multiplexes being better at 40 percent. In fact the Kunal Kohli venture fared even worse than Shahid’s last solo release, MAUSAM, which had fared much better on the opening day (around 50-55 percent).
The other release of the week, GANGS OF WASSEYPUR, saw poor collections of around 10-15 percent with some single screens of Eastern UP and Bihar-Jharkhand being better at around 20-25 percent. What is surprising is that despite local flavours and dialect the film is well below the mark in these circuits too.

Both TMK and GOW face an uncertain future unless there is a good pick up during the remaining two days of the weekend. Of the two TMK has better chances of keeping afloat.
Meanwhile last week’s Sharman-Boman starrer, FERRARI KI SAWAARI, managed a decent first week netting 20 crore (to be validated). But the problem is that, FKS has been sold at a very steep price of 35-40 crore to EROS International. So while Vidhu Vinod Chopra, the producer of 10-12 crore FKS will laugh all the way to the bank (more so because of the expected 25-30 crore satellite rights), EROS (distributors), at best are expected to escape with minimal losses.
