Exclusive: Karan Johar’s BIGGEST Web Series Setback? ‘Jet Set Go’ Shelved Due to CASTING ISSUES?

Karan Johar is not coming back to the director’s seat for a web series as yet. PeepingMoon.com has come to know that the filmmaker’s web series debut, working title ‘Jet Set Go,’ is temporarily shelved on account of casting and budgetary limitations.

Against the lively setting of the 1970s aviation industry, ‘Jet Set Go’ was conceptualized as a high-budget, A-list drama starring three leading lady protagonists. Nonetheless, Karan is said to have run into some serious trouble getting A-list Bollywood actresses to star in this Netflix web series and absorb the production expense. Many of the actresses he sought to cast were already committed elsewhere or reluctant to make the switch to the web space. After several attempts at getting a right star cast, Karan is believed to have understood that the time wasn’t ripe to move ahead and reportedly decided to put the project on hold for the time being.

‘Jet Set Go’ was poised to mark Karan’s foray into digital storytelling after a 27-year career directing iconic theatrical films, including blockbusters like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’ (1998), ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’ (2000), ‘Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna’ (2006), and ‘My Name Is Khan’ (2010). The series was positioned as one of Netflix’s most ambitious Indian originals, with plans to mount it on a massive scale. The script had been completed, and soft preparation had also commenced.

This cancellation is temporary. Karan is still interested in reworking this project at a later point of time when the situation is more propitious. His Dharmatic Entertainment and Netflix India are still partners in their successful endeavors and now have two films being produced. This includes Anubhuti Kashyap’s relationship drama starring Konkona Sen Sharma and Pratibha Ranta and ‘Meenakshi Sundareshwar’ fame Vivek Soni’s quirky romcom, ‘Aap Jaisa Koi,’ featuring R. Madhavan and Fatima Sana Shaikh.
