So one may wonder is there anything that the legend regrets. On Gulzar’s 81st birthday Glamsham.Com wishes him many happy returns of day and reveals the secret about his unfulfilled dream that he still regrets most.

In an interview Gulzar confessed that it was his intense desire to picturise a song on Meena Kumari in his debut directorial venture MERE APNE but he couldn’t fulfill his dream due to Meena Kumari’s deteriorating health.

Gulzar informs, “I had penned a song passionately and even recorded the song but unfortunately Meena Kumari’s health deteriorated so steadily that I had to abandon the idea of picturising the song on her and instead rush to complete her scenes foremost.”

He laments, “I will always regret not shooting the song because by the time I completed her scenes she was completely bed ridden and my dream of picturising the song on her remained unfulfilled.”

As the song was not picturised, it was dropped from the film but its lyrics were so poignant and the music by veteran Salil Chaudhary was so mesmerizing that HMV, the recording company, retained the songs and released it.

The song Roz Akeli Aaye, Roz Akeli Jaaye, Chaand Katora Liye Bhikharan Raat… is available on record and can be heard on Radio.

Music lovers who have heard this song will admit that this is one of the best songs written by Gulzar. The song is sung by Lata Mangeshkar.
