August 27, marks the seventh death anniversary of Indian cinema’s legendary film maker Hrishikesh Mukherjee. On this occasion Glamsham.Com enlightens readers about the filmmaker and few of his majestic movies.

These words penned by Shailendra encapsulate the persona of film legend Hrishikesh Mukherjee excellently because despite being the part of glamourized Bollywood Hrishikeshdaa lived a life of simplicity and was utter down to earth. His movies, like his personality, conveyed the message of humanity, compassion and concern towards the society, remember ANARI, ANAND, BAWARCHI, AASHIRWAD, ANUPAMA, SATYAKAM, CHUPKE CHUPKE, GOLMAAL etc.
Born on September 22, 1932, Hrishikeshdaa, unlike most of the Bollywood personality of that era was a highly learned person who had done graduation in Science from the prestigious Calcutta University. However his passion in art and drama drew him towards cinema. He began as a laboratory assistant first at New Theatre owner, Kolkata, which was owned by B N Sircar. In his spare time he would help the editor as he had a passion for filmmaking.
Blessed with a creative art Hrishikeshdaa would give his opinion and little suggestions to the editor about placing certain scenes here and cutting few extra shots. Once Bimal Roy, eminent film legend happened to notice young Hrishikeshdaa suggesting valuable advice to the editor and was overwhelmed. He immediately asked him to join him as an editor for his Bengali film TATHAPI (1947). Later when Bimal Roy shifted to Mumbai he asked Hrishikeshdaa to accompany him which he willingly accepted.
Hrishikeshdaa worked as an editor and assistant director to BIMAL ROY in DO BIGHA ZAMIN (1953) and DEVDAS (1955) and later edited all his movies from PARINEETA (1953), BIRAJ BAHU (1954), NAUKRI (1954), till MADHUMATI (1958).
As a mark of respect when Bimal Roy expired in 1965, Hrishikeshdaa dedicated his movie ANUPAMA (1966) to his mentor.
