The director of the 2008 film Krazzy 4 Jaideep Sen is currently facing a severe health crisis due to a heart defect known as Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy (HOCM). This condition necessitates a heart transplant, which he is unable to afford without assistance. Sen shared that he has been hospitalized twice this year, with one instance narrowly avoiding death and requiring a three-day stint on a ventilator. His cardiologist has made it clear that a heart transplant is his only option.
Sen’s battle with this heart condition began in 2011 when he collapsed in Rakesh Roshan’s office while working on Krrish 3. Since then, he has had an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) in his chest, which delivers shocks to his heart whenever it detects an abnormal heart rate, thus preventing sudden death.
Currently, Sen is at the top of the recipient list for a heart transplant in Mumbai. However, the surgery costs ₹35 lakhs, and he needs an additional ₹15 lakhs for contingencies. Hospital policy requires the full ₹35 lakh deposit before confirming the surgery. His savings fall significantly short of this amount. Despite his long career, Sen highlights that only successful brands in the industry receive adequate financial rewards, leaving him in a precarious situation.
In his time of need, the film industry has shown support, with various individuals contributing what they can. Sen is grateful for their generosity, acknowledging that it’s about the heartfelt contributions rather than specific amounts.
Since Krazzy 4, Sen has struggled to find work in Bollywood, relying instead on television. The past 13 years have been challenging, with frequent periods of unemployment leading to immense frustration. He pointedly describes the harsh realities of the industry, where often talented individuals struggle while less skilled ones thrive. Reflecting on his career, Sen expresses a deep sense of injustice, feeling as if his lack of success in the box office with Krazzy 4 has left him ostracized and struggling at the bottom of the industry ladder.
