Emraan Hashmi set social media buzzing earlier this year when he announced Awarapan 2 on his birthday, a sequel to the 2007 romantic thriller that’s widely considered one of his best performances. Now, the actor has confirmed more exciting updates not just about Awarapan 2, but also a potential return of the Jannat franchise.
‘Awarapan 2’ to Begin Filming Soon
In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama, Emraan revealed that the story for Awarapan 2 is finalized, and filming will begin in July or August 2025. The sequel is once again being directed by Mohit Suri, and Emraan shared that the decision to move forward with the project came after years of consistent fan demand. He said, “The kind of goodwill and love Awarapan has received over the years, especially on satellite and digital platforms, is overwhelming. That’s why we didn’t want to rush into a sequel.”

The original film, co-starring Shriya Saran, Mrinalini Sharma, and Ashutosh Rana, may have underperformed at the box office, but its haunting narrative and timeless soundtrack earned it a cult following.
‘Jannat 3’ in the Works, But Not Rushed
Emraan also spoke about the long-rumored Jannat 3, saying that the team is exploring the idea but will only proceed with a powerful script. “We’re not just making a sequel for the sake of it,” he said. Jannat, released in 2008 and co-starring Sonal Chauhan, was a massive hit and left a lasting impact on audiences, especially with its blend of romance and crime drama.
