Producer Jay Shewakramani, who boasts a diverse slate at Northern Lights Films, has left his imprint on Bollywood with a range of films. From the light-hearted romantic comedy Jawaani Jaaneman to action thrillers like Malang and psychological thrillers like Freddy and Jaane Jaan, Shewakramani has consistently ventured into different genres. With two movies already in post-production, Shewakramani is also increasing his slate by working on several new projects in various genres, establishing himself as a prominent figure in Bollywood’s vibrant filmmaking landscape.

New Partnerships with Experienced Filmmakers

In an effort to further diversify his body of work, Shewakramani has onboarded three experienced filmmakers — Saket Chaudhary, Anirudh Iyer, and Pulkit — for upcoming projects under his banner. Saket Chaudhary, who received critical acclaim for Hindi Medium (2017) featuring the late Irrfan Khan, will direct a young, culture-based horror comedy for Northern Lights Films. The film is Chaudhary’s comeback to feature direction after a gap of eight years, as he last directed a segment in Netflix India’s anthology, Ankahi Kahaniya.

Anirudh Iyer, who made his directorial debut with An Action Hero (2022) and worked as an assistant director for Aanand L. Rai, will be directing a light-hearted action comedy for Shewakramani. Both Iyer’s and Chaudhary’s movies are in the last stages of script development and are likely to go on the floors by the end of 2025 or early next year, subject to the availability of their cast.

In parallel, Pulkit, his former collaborator for upcoming Maalik, has been signed for the second production with him. The film is a courtroom thriller and casting is yet to be finalized, but negotiations are on to give the leading lady’s role to a Bollywood A-list actress.

Future Projects and Releases

Apart from these promising new projects, Shewakramani has two films releasing this year. Maalik, featuring Rajkummar Rao, is a gangster drama of a man’s ascension to power in the underworld, releasing on June 20. His second release, Inspector Zende, with Manoj Bajpayee and Jim Sarbh, is a Netflix crime thriller. It is a biographical account of a Mumbai police officer who famously arrested infamous serial killer Charles Sobhraj twice in his career. The film, which recently completed production, is expected to premiere on Netflix later this year.

With an exciting lineup of new projects and collaborations with talented filmmakers, Jay Shewakramani’s Northern Lights Films is poised for continued success in the ever-evolving Bollywood industry.
