The actor turns 72 today. Glamsham.Com wishes him birthday greetings and congratulates the actor for winning the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, which is regarded as India’s most esteemed award for any actor for his contribution to Indian Cinema.

Though it is heartening to know that Jeetendra has been selected to be conferred with Dadasaheb Phalke Award, yet readers would be stunned to know that in his career spanning more than 30 years and over 200 movies, Jeetendra has never been awarded for his performance by any popular awards. The only award the actor has been conferred include Lifetime Achievement Award! He won Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award (2003) and Screen Lifetime Achievement Award (2005).

However the actor has no qualms. In an interview speaking about awards he said, ”I have never been in the race for awards though I did some great work with Gulzarji in movies like PARICHAY, KHUSHBOO and KINARA which stunned even the critics who had labeled me as a wooden actor.” He continues, ”Nevertheless I always catered to the audience, who wanted to watch me in the typical masala movies dancing round the trees and bashing the villains.”

It may be noted that Ravi Kapoor aka Jeetendra during his peak in the 70’s and 80’s was such a craze among the audience that filmmakers created special role in their films to cast Jeetendra, most of which used to be cameo just to draw the public. Remember KHILONA, NAGIN, JAANI DUSHMAN, THE BURNING TRAIN etc. Thus, Jeentendra has been a darling of the movie buffs and shall always remain.
