Abhishek Kapoor is grinning from ear to ear as his star-less flick KAI PO CHE! has done the unimaginable. In six days flat, his film managed to do more business than what ROCK ON!! had done in its entire stay at theatres! Yes, you heard it right.
"Yes that's true,'' confirms a source attached to the film, "ROCK ON had collected around 27 crores on its release.
KAI PO CHE! crossed this total by Wednesday itself and a couple of more crores were added on Thursday. The film has been accepted, and how.'
For Abhishek, this is a major win indeed. After a false start in the form of ARYAN – THE UNBREAKABLE which, despite well made, had suffered due to a delayed release, he got a new lease in life with ROCK ON.
Now with KAI PO CHE! doing well too, despite an unconventional theme, narrative, cast and music, he has managed to emerge as a filmmaker to reckon with.
"Now it has to be seen that what kind of distance does KAI PO CHE! further manages to cover,'' a trade insider adds, 'It has done well to stay very consistent during after a fantastic weekend.
It is yet another surprise biggie of the year for UTV after ABCD. Last year films like ISHAQZAADE and VICKY DONOR managed to top the 40 crores mark. If KAI PO CHE! manages more than 50 crores, it would be only the second non-star affair after STUDENT OF THE YEAR to achieve this feat.'
For Abhishek though it would just be academic as he is happy with the current state itself.
