She was expected to be overtly serious and largely distraught in SHANGHAI and she played her part well there. However it would be an altogether different outing for Kalki Koechlin in YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI, the film that she is shooting for currently. From the artistic world of Dibakar Banerjee, she is now making a quick transition to the fluorescent setting of the Karan Johar production.

”YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI has a very interesting script and (director) Ayan Mukherjee comes with a lot of enthusiasm and energy. He makes you believe in the film you are doing,” says Kalki, ”I really love the character which I am playing. She is so adorable; you know the kind anyone can fall in love with. This is something that I have never done before. To be playing a fun loving, ‘bindaas’, loud and funny character is something new to me. Moreover, the beauty of the script is that it requires to be shot at different places. We had a fun schedule in Rajasthan.”

This also means that there are days at stretch when she is away from hubby Anurag Kashyap. While both of them are quite busy in their career, isn’t it ironic that despite making a very good start with DEV D, she is seeing some of the best offers coming her way post marriage?
”See, times have changed. People are a little more open about their relationships. Imran (Khan) is married and doing some of his best work today. Genelia and Riteish married and they are still getting offers; their career hasn’t stopped or ended. In earlier days, marriage used to be the death of a woman’s career in movies but today that’s not the case. We are getting good movies and it’s up to us to do them with a lot of dignity,” says Kalki before signing off.
