Despite receiving huge accolades for his debut film, SEHAR, which is considered as actor Arshad Warsi‘s finest work till date (as a serious cop), director Kabeer Kaushik took a long break before starting work on his next film. And the reason behind this sabbatical was that he was very busy researching for his pet project, MAXIMUM, which deals with that branch of Mumbai police which helped the city get out of the tentacles of the mafias and dons during the 2002-2005 phase.

The film which stars some of the finest actors of today like Naseruddin Shah, Vinay Pathak, Mohan Agashe and Sonu Sood, is another cop drama-thriller like SEHAR, but unlike his first film, MAXIMUM revolves around an encounter specialist and his life, his rise and fall and his fight against the system.
While talking about his film director Kabeer Kausihk explains, ”MAXIMUM is just not a cop story. It has many shades. There is poetic bonding and the film touches on all aspects. I don’t want my film to cater to just the multiplex audience. I want the single screen ‘janta’ to come in and see my film as well. So I have put in all the ‘masala’ and ‘latke jhatke’ required to make an entertaining movie without compromising on the story or its sensibilities.” He also added, ”One does not need to know the intricacies of the crime branch of Mumbai or how it functions (to enjoy the movie), as there is wholesome drama in the film.”

He also clarified that he is not glorifying encounter specialists and said, ”The film does not glorify encounter specialists. In a bid to tell their story in a true manner we have touched upon politics, underworld, journalists, crime reporters and other things as well. And I am sure that through MAXIMUM, the audience will surely witness and understand an important era of Mumbai police.”
Well, here is hoping that this passionate director receives not only critical but commercial success as well when MAXIMUM releases on June 29th.
