Meri sargam mein bhii teraa zikr hai
Mere geetoon mein teri awaaz hai
Apni mosiqi par sab ko fakhar hotaa hai magar
Mere sathi aaj mosiqi ko tujh par naaz hai
Yesterday you read music director Shyam Sunder gave a recommendation letter to Mohammed Rafi in the name of music doyen Naushad urging to give a break to the youngster. Rafi equipped with the later landed in Mumbai and met Naushad.
Naushad knew Shyam Sunder well hence he did not turn down his request. Recalling his first meeting with Rafi, Naushad in an interview said, ”A shy, slim, short, young man approached me with a letter in his hand and a request on his lips to grant him an opportunity to sing with the legendary singer K.L. Saigal. I was impressed by his ‘adabi’ culture and of course his majestic voice. I was recording a song for the movie PEHLE AAP (1944). The song was a patriotic number ‘Hindostan ke hum hai hindostan humara, hindu muslim dono ki ankhoN ka tara…’ The song was picturised on soldiers and it had a chorus track so I gave Rafi an opportunity to sing in the chorus. But to my astonishment his voice was exceptionally different!”
