It rarely happens for an actor that two of his films simultaneously make waves at the Cannes International Film festival, but Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one such rare actor. He is blessed that two of his yet to be released films GANGS OF WASSEYPUR 1&2 and MISS LOVELY have made huge waves at the Cannes film festival. While GANGS OF WASSEYPUR is being shown in the ‘Directors Fortnight’ Section, MISS LOVELY has been featured in ‘Un Certain Regard’ category.

For Nawazuddin Siddiqui, 2012 indeed is a blessed year as he has already given two power packed performances in two diverse films PAAN SINGH TOMAR and KAHAANI, which apart from being a box office success also established him as one of the finest performers in Indian film industry in the recent times. It has taken him quite long to establish himself, but were it not for Anurag Kashyap he would not have reached this position. Nawazuddin Siddiqui was noticed for the first time in BLACK FRIDAY where the critics sat up and took notice of his performance. BLACK FRIDAY was followed by FIRAAQ and PEEPLI LIVE. As a matter of fact it was PEEPLI LIVE that became a major watershed for him and thenceforth it was no looking back. Aamir Khan must have been impressed by his performance as Nawazuddin Siddiqui has bagged a major role in TALAASH as well.

It is the theatre experience with National School of Drama that has stood him in good stead and has been the catalysis for scores of unforgettable performances. It was his performance that earned him a nomination by the celebrated American film critic Robert Ebert in Illinois Chicago at Ebert Fest, the annual film festival which is organized by Ebert. On the occasion of this film festival Nawazuddin Sidduiqi’s film PATANG was screened.
Siddiqui would be one of the first actors in the history of Hindi cinema or rather Indian cinema to have been bestowed with such honour. He is quite clear about the fact that he is not interested in doing the usual run of the mill commercial cinema.
One only hopes that with release of GANGS OF WASSEYPUR and MISS LOVELY Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s long struggle to make his presence felt would come to an end.
