It was yet another disappointing week at the box-office with the new releases opening to a dull response.

While Supran Verma’s AATMA saw a start in the range of 15-25 percent, Vashu Bhagnani’s RANGREZZ was lower at around 15 percent (both on an all India basis). The third release of the week, Naseeruddin Shah’s SONA SPA was always for the niche audience and was never in the competition and it also had a limited response. However, the good thing is that the Bipasha Basu and Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer, AATMA, which was already faring decently at massy circuits, saw a noticeable pick up during the evening shows. Given the reasonable budget (8 crore) and based on a decent word of mouth (especially amongst the fans of this genre), the film is likely to make a turnaround.
The other release, Jackky Bhagnani’s RANGREZZ, also showed some improvement during the latter shows, although the higher budget may act as deterrent in the final count.

Meanwhile last Friday’s Arshad, Amrita and Boman starrer, JOLLY L.L.B. saw a rock steady week netting 19 crore (to be validated), and the film is likely to be the best success of the year till date (given the cost to earning ratio).
The other release of the same week, Y-Films’ Saqib Saleem and Ram Kapoor starrer, MERE DAD KI MARUTI managed around 8 crore during the opening week and will have to rely on non-theatrical rights for recovery.
The third release of the same week, as the two aforementioned films, Neil Nitin Mukesh’s, 3G, netted in the range of 5.5-6 crore, and will struggle to recover its cost.
