Prem Chopra’s Health Scares: Severe Aortic Stenosis Diagnosis Revealed

Sharman Joshi shares a health update on veteran actor Prem Chopra, who has recovered well after a successful TAVI procedure for severe Aortic Stenosis.

Veteran actor Prem Chopra, who faced a serious health challenge earlier this month, is well on his way to recovery. Weeks after the 90-year-old was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, his son-in-law and actor Sharman Joshi shared an encouraging update about his condition. Taking to Instagram, Sharman revealed that Prem Chopra had been diagnosed with severe Aortic Stenosis, which is a condition that narrows the aortic valve, restricting blood flow. This was treated by doctors through a TAVI procedure-a minimally invasive technique that replaces the damaged valve without the need for open-heart surgery.

Sharman reported that the surgery was successful and Chopra responded very well to the treatment. “He recovered very quickly and is back home now,” Sharman said in a tweet showing relief and thanks as conveyed by the family. He also stated that the extra speed in Chopra’s recovery could be attributed to the brilliant skills of Dr. Nitin Gokhale and Dr. Ravinder Singh Rao, for whom he extended thanks for extraordinary care. Dr. Rao performed the TAVI while Dr. Gokhale attended to Chopra and reassured the family through the process.

Along with the update, Sharman shared several pictures from the hospital. Prem Chopra looked jovial and at ease as he posed with his doctors, suggesting positive developments in his health. One of the photos also showed veteran actor Jeetendra, pointing towards the fact that the long-time friend visited Chopra during the latter’s stay in the hospital. The update comes after Chopra was earlier admitted in November on account of chest congestion. A week later, he was discharged on November 15, only to be admitted again to the hospital for further check-up. Still considered one of Indian cinema’s greatest villains, Prem Chopra turned 90 on September 23, 2025.

With over 380 films to his credit and a career spanning over six decades, he still is a towering figure known for his magnetic screen presence and unmatched dialogue delivery. His legendary line from Bobby, “Prem naam hai mera, Prem Chopra”, till date remains among the most quoted dialogues in Hindi film history.

Before reigning in Bollywood with powerhouse renditions of villainous characters, this great thespian started his acting career in Punjabi cinema with the National Award-winning Chaudhary Karnail Singh. It is this enduring contribution to Indian cinema, versatility across genres, and unmatched longevity that have made him one of the most respected and loved veterans in the industry.
