However, that is not the case with Raima Sen, who is very honest and downright frank. Despite being a big name in offbeat films and working with directors of the caliber of Rituparno Ghosh, etc, and winning awards and accolades for her amazing performances, she has not made much of a foray into commercial cinema, and is rarely seen in mainstream films.

Quite curious we decided to ask Raima as to why she is not seen in more commercial films, and whether it is a personal decision, or she just prefers offbeat films, and Raima’s honest answer clean bowled us. She said, “Well, I am just not being offered commercial films.” Seeing our surprise, she elaborated, “Just see my list of films and you will get the point. I won’t say that I have not done commercial films, like my recent roles in films like MERE KHWABON MEIN JO AAYE and TEEN PATTI, but they are far and few.”

Well, all we can say is that this is indeed sad that an actress of the caliber of Raima Sen is not getting chances to showcase her mettle in mainstream cinema because we are sure that just like Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil (though she has miles to go before she gets to their level), Raima too is a highly versatile actress who will excel in whatever she does!
