Businessman Raj Kundra, the husband of actress Shilpa Shetty from Bollywood, finds himself in legal trouble once again—this time for his suspected role in a ₹60 crore fraud case. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Mumbai has called Kundra to appear for questioning, after he had previously requested additional time to appear.
Complaint Filed by Businessman Deepak Kothari
In August 2025, the EOW filed a case against Raj Kundra, Shilpa Shetty, and another partner on a complaint from businessman Deepak Kothari. Kothari asserts he invested more than ₹60 crore in Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, a home shopping business now defunct which was owned jointly by the couple.
Kothari had invested between 2015 and 2023, looking forward to business growth. Nevertheless, he claims the funds were siphoned off for personal purposes, constituting financial fraud.
Lookout Notice Issued
The EOW is said to have issued a lookout notice against both Raj Kundra and Shilpa Shetty following scrutiny of their flight history. Investigators are now investigating the funds trail and the suspected abuse of funds.
Legal Response from Kundra and Shetty
The couple, represented by lawyer Prashant Patil, has emphatically denied the accusations. Patil described the accusations as “baseless and malicious” and said the issue is civil in nature and already being dealt with by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).
“This is an old deal of a company that fell into financial trouble. All relevant documents, including cash flow statements, have been filed with the EOW,” Patil said.
He also clarified that the transaction in question was an investment in equity, not a loan, and already a liquidation order has been received by the company.
