India’s Mumbai Film Company and Jio Studios have officially confirmed the release of their ambitious historical action epic Raja Shivaji on May 1, 2026, to coincide with Maharashtra Day. Directed by and starring Riteish Deshmukh in the lead role, the film will get a worldwide multilingual release in Marathi, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
A Tribute to the Great Maratha Warrior
Raja Shivaji is the inspiring tale of Shivaji Bhonsale, the great warrior who resisted mighty empires to create the Maratha kingdom and chart the concept of Swarajya (self-governance). The movie traces his life against the backdrop of immense political turmoil and savors his lasting legacy.
Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi, and Amole Gupte feature in the film, with Genelia Deshmukh also featuring and also working as co-producer.

A Cinematic Treat in the Making
Music of the film is done by renowned duo Ajay–Atul and the film is also Santosh Sivan’s Marathi film debut as a cinematographer. The shoot is already going on in Mumbai and Wai.
Jio Studios head Jyoti Deshpande referred to the movie as “more than a film it’s a celebration of Swarajya.” She highlighted the film’s ability to introduce Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy to the world.
